Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Pedestrian, Building and Parked Cars in Isla Vista

ISLA VISTA, CA (July 15, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver struck a pedestrian, cars and a building in a hit-and-run crash along Del Playa Drive Friday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2006 Nissan Altima driver reversed and struck a pedestrian before hitting three parked cars in the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive.

The driver subsequently accelerated forward and struck a building, causing a natural gas line to rupture. Before spinning around and hitting another parked vehicle, the driver backed up in an attempt to flee the scene.

According to reports, the unidentified driver abandoned the vehicle along Camino Pescadero and fled on foot.

The County of Santa Barbara Planning and Development Department building team arrived at the crash site to red tape the building, which they deemed unsafe due to the amount of damage. Meanwhile, the female pedestrian received treatment for her injuries.

At this time, authorities are investigating the cause and whereabouts of the driver.
