20-Year-Old Dead After DUI Crash on Interstate 5 in San Diego

San Diego, CA (April 25, 2024) – On Saturday, a 20-year-old man died in a crash on Interstate 5 involving multiple vehicles.

Reportedly, on Saturday around 10 p.m., a 20-year-old man was driving a Honda Civic southbound on I-5 north of J Street when he became involved in a collision that only damaged property, a California Highway Patrol release issued Thursday. 

After the collision, the driver exited his vehicle and stood in the traffic lanes where a Ford Escape, driven by a 44-year-old man, struck him and the Honda. 

The impact threw the Honda driver into the traffic lanes, where a silver Honda Accord, driven by a 36-year-old woman, subsequently hit him. 

A black Ford Bronco, driven by a 34-year-old woman, then collided with the Ford Escape. Authorities reported that the Honda driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. 

Following the incident, all lanes of I-5 north of State Route 94 were closed for the investigation. 

The drivers of the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco, who were found to be under the influence, were arrested on various DUI-related charges and booked into San Diego County jails. 

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause and sequence of events. 

The identity of the deceased man has not been released pending family notification.
