89-Year-Old Rex Zant Dies in County Road Collision [Dawson County, TX]

Dawson County, TX (May 3, 2024) – 89-year-old Rex Zant was killed following a County Road collision Thursday afternoon.

It was about 3:04 p.m. on May 2 when the deadly vehicle crash happened at the intersection with US 87.

Officers said a 2023 Toyota Camry was eastbound on County Road L while a 2019 GMC Acadia was southbound on US 87.

The Toyota Camry driver, 37-year-old John Villalobos, failed to yield at a stop sign-marked intersection and collided with the vehicle driven by Zant. 

Sadly, Zant was declared deceased at Medical Arts Hospital in Lamesa. 

The rescuers transported Villalobos to UMC Hospital in Lubbock. 

Officers are investigating.
