SAN DIEGO, CA (April 16, 2019) – A 15-year-old riding a scooter suffered an injury Sunday when a driver struck him on Villa La Jolla Drive near Via Mallorca.

Around 11:30 a.m., the teenager was riding west across Villa La Jolla Drive in a crosswalk.

According to San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros, the boy crossed on a green light when a 23-year-old man in a Honda Civic blew through the red traffic light.

The southbound vehicle struck the 15-year-old at the intersection, causing him a compound fracture to his ankle.

However, because details are limited, the circumstances are under investigation by detectives.

Complying with traffic lights and road signs are excellent ways to avoid accidents. Pay attention to the road ahead to minimize the risk of hitting a pedestrian. Driving can leave us on autopilot where we tend to overlook the obvious. Be alert and conscious at all times.
