Pedestrian Ricardo Torres Fatally Hit by Vehicle in Oxnard
OXNARD, CA (May 13, 2019) – A 30-year-old Oxnard man died in a pedestrian accident on Mariposa Street near Bluebell Street on Saturday morning.
Ricardo Torres died after being struck around 11:40 a.m. in the 2000 block of Mariposa Street, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
When Oxnard Police Department officers responded to the accident, north of Gonzales Road and east of Ventura Road, they found Torres lying in the road. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, officials said.
An initial investigation indicated Torres and the driver of the vehicle, described by police as a man in his 30s, had been in a dispute prior to the incident, authorities said Saturday. However, the driver was described as cooperative.
Torres died of multiple blunt-force injuries, according to the medical examiner. But the manner of his death — whether it was accidental or a homicide, for example — remains under investigation, officials said.
As of Monday afternoon, the incident was still under investigation, said Oxnard Police Detective Miguel Serrato. Authorities have towed the vehicle involved as evidence. In addition, police are still interviewing witnesses and going through any surveillance footage.
Anyone with information is asked to call Serrato at 805-385-7688. However, information can also be reported anonymously via Ventura County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
