CHP Merced-area units responded to the scene at about 4:29 a.m. at the intersection of North Gurr Road and Highway 140 in the McSwain area of Merced County.

Gurr was driving a Nissan Altima southbound on Gurr Road and ran a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 140.

Moreover, Garcia, the big rig driver was able to get out of the vehicle. He sustained minor injuries.

On the other hand, Gurr incurred serious injuries as a result of the crash. Authorities determined he was driving under the influence.

Police arrested Gurr and released in the care of Memorial Hospital in Los Banos.

Meanwhile, Gurr’s passenger, 30-year-old Alison Pernsteiner of Turlock sustained serious injuries to her abdomen.

Rescuers took her to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Both Gurr and Pernsteiner are in stable condition as of Saturday night.

Staying within the lanes of the road is an extremely important rule of the road. Moreover, if you feel yourself drifting into other lanes due to fatigue or any other reason, safely pull over. Then, rest before continuing to drive. Also, you can call a friend or an Uber to pick you up if you feel like it would be unsafe to drive.
