Jose Garcia Injured, Xavier Gurr Arrested in Merced County DUI Crash

 
Merced County, CA (November 8, 2020) – On Saturday, 64-year-old Jose Garcia of Planada was injured, while police arrested the 31-year-old Xavier Gurr of Turlock in a Merced County DUI crash.
 
CHP Merced-area units responded to the scene at about 4:29 a.m. at the intersection of North Gurr Road and Highway 140 in the McSwain area of Merced County.
 
Gurr was driving a Nissan Altima southbound on Gurr Road and ran a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 140.
 
At the same time, a 2014 Freightliner was heading westbound on Highway 140.
 
Gurr’s vehicle struck the big rig between its gas tank and the right rear tire. As a result, the truck caught fire.
 
Moreover, Garcia, the big rig driver was able to get out of the vehicle. He sustained minor injuries.
 
On the other hand, Gurr incurred serious injuries as a result of the crash. Authorities determined he was driving under the influence.
 
Police arrested Gurr and released in the care of Memorial Hospital in Los Banos.
 
Meanwhile, Gurr’s passenger, 30-year-old Alison Pernsteiner of Turlock sustained serious injuries to her abdomen.
 
Rescuers took her to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
 
Both Gurr and Pernsteiner are in stable condition as of Saturday night.
