Francisco Mejia Killed, Enrique Cervantes Unharmed in Head-On Wreck at Betteravia Road and Brown Road

GUADALUPE, CA (December 5, 2018) – A 45-year-old Santa Maria man was killed in a head-on collision at Betteravia Road and Brown Road Tuesday morning.

The crash unfolded around 6:15 a.m. when Francisco Mejia was heading westbound on Betteravia Road in a sedan. For unknown reasons, as Mejia approached the intersection with Brown Road, he turned his vehicle to the left and into the path of an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and struck it head-on. Per reports, the truck was traveling at speeds of 45 to 50 mph before the collision.

The 62-year-old driver of the pickup truck, Enrique Cervantes who tried to avoid the crash by slamming on his brakes, was unharmed in the crash, but Mejia perished shortly after. Reports stated that Mejia was not wearing a seatbelt.

An ongoing investigation of this crash is underway.
