According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 9:45 AM, near Bethel Avenue.

Preliminary investigation showed that Eloy had the green light to turn left onto the highway from Bethel Avenue when another vehicle ran a red light and collided into his driver’s side.

Officer Escareno sustained major injuries, including several fractured ribs and damage to his spleen. His wife, Maribel Escareno, suffered a significant head injury causing swelling to her brain. Both of them were listed in stable condition, while their children sustained minor injuries, and went to the hospital for treatment.
