1 Dead in San Antonio Dump Truck Accident on Highway 16 and Highway 211

SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 17, 2024) – Tuesday morning, a devastating rollover crash on Highway 16 and Highway 211 killed 1 person.

The incident happened as a man traveled along Highway 16, south of Highway 211 just before 7:30 a.m.

Then, his dump truck crashed with a pickup, leaving the man with a head injury.

However, the driver of the pickup, a 35-year-old man, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, which left his truck severely mangled.

A preliminary report initially suggested that the dump truck driver lost control of their vehicle while traveling north on Highway 16, resulting in a collision with the pickup. However, an investigator at the scene refrained from assigning blame, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Contrary to early reports indicating the crash occurred at an intersection as the dump truck attempted a left turn, investigators now believe the collision took place just a few feet from where the vehicles came to rest, on Highway 16, south of Highway 211.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Bexar County Medical Examiner was still working to confirm the identity of the pickup driver. The sheriff’s office has not disclosed any information regarding the identity of the dump truck driver, who survived the incident.

Following the crash, the southbound side of Highway 16 was closed in the area for several hours but has since reopened to traffic.
