Virginia Nelson Fatally Struck by Motorist on Highway 525 at South Useless Bay Avenue
WHIDBEY ISLAND, WA (January 16, 2019) – An 80-year-old pedestrian lost her life Monday night after being hit by a vehicle while crossing Highway 525 at South Useless Bay Avenue.
Washington State Troopers and paramedics were dispatched to the scene just after 7:40 p.m.
Virginia E. Nelson was found at the scene with severe injuries. She was immediately rushed to Harborview Medical Center where she died of her severe injuries.
A preliminary investigation led authorities to believe that Nelson, of Langley, was crossing the highway from the southbound shoulder and was hit by a 21-year-old Crosby man in a Jeep Wrangler SUV who was unable to avoid hitting her.
News reports say that no charges will be filed against the unidentified driver.
