Four Juveniles Involved in Fatal Off-Road Crash on Mesa Drive near Interstate 10
BLYTHE, CA (September 16, 2019) – Two teenage boys died and two girls suffered injuries in an off-road crash on Mesa Drive, Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 11:45 AM. A 2015 Polaris RZR, driven by a 13-year-old girl, attempted to turn left. Then, the all-terrain vehicle rolled onto its right side near Interstate 10.
Two San Jacinto boys, a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old, were ejected and crushed to death when the RZR rolled on top of them. Meanwhile, the driver and a 9-year-old girl in the left rear passenger seat suffered moderate injuries. Emergency responders rushed them to Desert Regional Medical Center.
The CHP ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the fatal crash. Investigators also noted that the boys were not secured in their seatbelts at the time of the incident. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
