HOUSTON, TX (September 8, 2023) – Wednesday morning, a tragic vehicle crash on Van Fleet Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard killed one person.

The incident started at around 8:00 p.m. when officers received reports about a car robbery in the 8400 block of Monroe.

According to Houston Police, the female owner of the stolen vehicle contacted the police, telling them that she had tracked her vehicle in the 7800 block of Jutland. Then, officers responded to the report at around 10:00 a.m. and spotted the stolen vehicle at Jutland and Bellfort sparking a pursuit.

As a result, the suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed and authorities lost track of the vehicle. Moments later, the suspect vehicle collided with two other vehicles and a pedestrian at a red light.

Moreover, responders pronounced one person, identified as an HPD sergeant’s mom, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported two people to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Furthermore, officers confirmed that a firearm was found in the suspect’s vehicle.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
