2 People Dead in Auburn Auto Accident on State Route 49 and El Dorado Street

AUBURN, CA (December 19, 2023) – Thursday morning, a tragic single-vehicle crash on State Route 49 and El Dorado Street killed two people.

The incident happened at around 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 49 and El Dorado Street/ Old Foresthill Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a gravel truck failed to stop at the intersection for still unknown reasons. Then, the truck crashed down a steep dirt and rock embankment, spilling several thousand pounds of gravel spilled on the roadway.

Moreover, authorities confirmed that the 68-year-old male driver of the truck and his passenger died in the crash.

Furthermore, a witness reported that the truck experienced mechanical issues that caused the crash.

Also, officers do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
