Sun-Shawn Hill Killed, Vernon Miller, Olayinka Akanji, Derek Phillips and Asha Riley Injured in Multi-Car Pileup on Highway 12 Near Beck Avenue
FAIRFIELD, CA (May 10, 2019) – A five-car pileup on Highway 12 near Beck Avenue Wednesday claimed a 21-year-old man’s life.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 3:22 p.m. when four vehicles were stopped in the fast lane of Highway 12 East.
Vernon Miller, 54, of Fairfield, was traveling in the same lane before he collided with the stopped vehicles, initially striking a Volkswagen Passat.
The collision sent the Volkswagen into the rear of a Hyundai sedan, which struck a BMW 325CI, which then hit the rear of an Audi A3.
Moments after, paramedics found Sun-Shawn Hill – the driver of a Volkswagen – unresponsive even after attempts to revive him. The 21-year-old man passed away in the collision.
Miller suffered moderate injuries and received medical assistance at Kaiser Permanente Vacaville.
Of those injured were also the 27-year-old Hyundai driver, Olayinka Akanji, of Los Angeles; 53-year-old Derek Phillips driving the BMW; and the 22-year-old Audi driver, Asha Riley of Fairfield.
The three patients suffered minor injuries, say reports.
Now, authorities are piecing together the details to determine the ultimate cause.
We’d like to send our sincere sympathies to the friends and family of Sun-Shawn Hill.
