Stewart Napier Arrested, 1 Person Killed Following Suspected DUI Fiery Collision on Highway 1 Near 8th Street
MARINA, CA (December 6, 2018) – One person was killed in a fiery suspected DUI crash on Highway 1 near 8th Street Wednesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. under the 8th Street overpass.
Reports say that Pacific Grove resident, 25-year-old Stewart Maxwell Napier, was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra at an undetermined speed when he struck a 1999 Geo Tracker, which subsequently burst into flames. The driver of the Geo Tracker was killed at the scene after the vehicle was swallowed by the flames.
The fatal victim has not been identified pending family notification.
In addition to the two cars, a 2008 Jeep Patriot was involved. Both its driver and passenger were unharmed and were able to drive away from the scene.
The CHP is investigating this fatal crash to determine how the incident precisely unfolded. So far, they have determined that Napier was believed to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He was then booked into the Monterey County Jail.
