Richard Martinez Hospitalized Following San Bernardino Hit-and-Run Accident

San Bernardino, CA (November 3, 2020) – On Saturday, Richard Martinez, a 3-year-old trick-or-treater was seriously injured after a hit-and-run crash on East 35th Street.

The accident happened at around 8 p.m. in a San Bernardino neighborhood when Richie was hit by a car driven by an unknown assailant.

Skye Jones, with Martinez and her other sons, were crossing East 35th Street and Sierra Way when a car driving at a fast speed approached and struck the toddler.

“I’m angry because my son is laying in a bed in pain and I can’t do anything about it,” said the boy’s mother Skye Jones.

The driver sped off and left the scene without stopping. The toddler was left with a fractured skull and bleeding from his head, among other injuries.

“(The driver) put his foot into the street and the car smacked him and dragged him from two houses all the way to this corner,” Jones said.

The victim was breathing and responsive when he arrived at the hospital. He was listed in critical but guarded condition at last check.

Moreover, the police do not have a photo of the car. Witnesses said it was a two-door silver car that took off eastbound on 36th Street.

Further, Jones and other loved ones said they want whoever did this to Martinez to come forward.

“Accidents do happen but I’m angrier because they didn’t stop to see if my child was okay,” Jones said. “We forgive you. Just turn yourself in. We just ask you to come forward or anybody that saw anything.”
