Raymond Berkowitz Dead, Tanner Peters Arrested Following DUI Pedestrian Crash on 50th Street East Near Avenue M-4
LANCASTER, CA (December 14, 2018) – A 65-year-old pedestrian died Wednesday morning after being struck by a suspected DUI driver on 50th Street East near Avenue M-4.
The deadly collision unfolded at approximately 1 a.m. just south of Avenue M-4.
According to reports, 24-year-old Tanner Peters, of Littlerock, was suspected of being under the influence when he struck 65-year-old Raymond Berkowitz with his 2007 Dodge 2500 pickup truck.
Peters was said to be traveling at speeds of about 40 mph while Berkowitz, described as a transient, was walking within the southbound lane in front of the pickup. It was noted that Peters was unable to avoid the crash at the time.
Following the incident, Peters was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Investigators are asking anyone with additional insight to call the CHP Antelope Valley Area office at 661-948-8541.
