Person Dies in Pedestrian Crash Involving Train in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE, CA (April 19, 2019) – An Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday afternoon on Wisconsin Avenue near South Pacific Street.
According to Deputy Tyler Eikermann, the incident happened around 3:50 p.m. Authorities responded to the scene to find the pedestrian with grave injuries.
According to investigators, northbound Amtrak train A583 struck the pedestrian as he or she was standing in the middle of the track. The train’s engineer tried sounding the horn multiple times. However, the pedestrian made no attempt to move.
As a result, the engineer made an emergency stop but was unable to prevent hitting the person.
According to Sheriff’s officials, the identity, age and gender of the pedestrian have yet to be released.
Authorities plan to investigate this case further to determine the cause. In the meantime, anyone with information is urged to call the Sheriff’s Department at 858-565-5200.
