Officer Hospitalized in Lynwood Hit-and-Run Collision
LYNWOOD, CA (June 4, 2019) – A motorcycle officer suffered injuries in a hit-and-run crash on the 105 Freeway near the 710 Freeway Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. in the carpool lane. A report of an officer down in the westbound lane of the 105 Freeway drew a large police response.
As soon as paramedics arrived, crews transported the Los Angeles Police Department Officer to St. Francis Hospital in an unknown condition. Meanwhile, officials closed the carpool lane for nearly two hours due to clean up and investigations.
According to investigations, the 52-year-old officer was traveling west in the carpool lane, adjacent to the driver, when the driver made an unsafe lane change. Further reports detailed that the driver crossed a set of double yellow lines and struck the right side of the officer’s motorcycle.
CHP described the vehicle as a silver or dark-colored SUV– perhaps a BMW X5. In addition, the vehicle sustained damage to its rear left side door.
