Motorcyclist Dead, 1 Hospitalized in Multi-Vehicle Crash on State Route 78 [San Diego, CA]

1 Killed and 1 Injured in San Diego Multi-Vehicle Accident on State Route 78

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 11, 2021) – Sunday afternoon, a motorcyclist died while another was taken to a hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 78 near Santa Ysabel.
 
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow, the incident happened at around 5:00 p.m. Two motorcycles traveled westbound on State Route 78 near Santa Ysabel. However, one of the motorcycles, a 2020 Honda dual-sport bike, veered off-road and hit a rock. The motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle.
 
The other motorcycle veered off across the double yellow lane into the path of a 2003 Ford Focus heading east. Afterward, the motorcycle and the Ford Focus collided, throwing the motorcycle rider into the road.
 
Responders pronounced one of the motorcyclists dead on the scene while the other one was taken to a hospital via helicopter.
 
The 71-year-old driver of the Ford Focus sustained minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. Two passengers of the Ford suffered no injuries in the crash.
 
Information regarding which motorcyclist died was unavailable at this moment.
