Monica Gonzalez Dead, Andrew Gilbert, Kelly Riggs, Eugene Riggs, Kimberly Riggs and Ellen Glenn Sent to Hospital Following Two-Vehicle Accident at Highway 283 and Road 9 Northwest
EPHRATA, WA (May 2, 2019) – A 33-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle accident at Highway 283 and Road 9 Northwest Tuesday night.
According to Washing State Patrol, Monica Gonzalez died in the two-car crash around 9:15 p.m.
Gonzalez was a passenger in a Pontiac G6, driven by 38-year-old Andrew Gilbert, of Moses Lake.
Per reports, Gilbert pulled out in front of a northbound Toyota Sequoia after making a stop at Road 9 Northwest.
Kelly Riggs, 54, of Ephrata collided with the passenger side of Gilbert’s Pontiac, sending it into a northbound ditch. As a result of the accident, Gonzalez died in the collision.
Paramedics rushed Gilbert to Columbia Basin Hospital as a precaution.
As for the Sequoia occupants, including Kelly, paramedics transported them to a hospital as a precaution, as well.
Reports identified the patients as Eugene Riggs, 56, of Ephrata; Kimberly Riggs, 51, of Ephrata; Ellen Glenn, 76, of Ephrata, a 14-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy.
According to WSP, the cause of the crash may likely be that Gilbert failed to yield to oncoming traffic. At this time, charges are pending against him.
