Michael Maciel Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 132 [Vernalis, CA]

Vernalis, CA (March 22, 2022) – On March 17, at about 3:40 p.m.71-year-old Michael Maciel, a former Tracy Mayor, died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 132.

Maciel was a passenger in a northbound 2014 Ford Focus driven by 18-year-old Nicholas Camper of Ripon on Koster Road.

Reports say Maciel’s vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2006 GMC Yukon driven by 44-year-old Fernando Duran Ortiz of Modesto on Highway 132

“We can safely say the Ford Focus did not yield to traffic on Highway 132.” an officer said. 

Right away, the paramedics airlifted Maciel to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Moreover, the emergency rescuers took Camper by ambulance to an area hospital, with injuries.

Also, Ortiz, the Yukon driver sustained minor injuries.

Maciel was a Tracy mayor from 2014 to 2016. He also served on the City Council.

Meanwhile, the authorities are investigating this fatal crash.
