Michael Fort Injured, Guillermo Rodriguez Escapes Injury in 2-Car Crash on Highway 166 Near Black Road
SANTA MARIA, CA (April 12, 2019) – A Morro Bay man suffered critical injuries in Thursday’s two-vehicle accident along Highway 166 near Black Road.
Around 12:20 p.m., Santa Barbara County and Santa Maria fire departments responded to the scene. Upon arriving, officials learned that a Toyota Corolla and a 1999 Chevrolet C3500 catering truck collided.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Efrem Moore, Michael Fort was traveling west on Highway 166 when for unknown reasons he turned his Toyota to the left. As his car faced southbound in the westbound lanes, it was subsequently struck by the Chevrolet vehicle, driven by Guillermo Rodriguez who had been traveling behind him.
As a result of the impact, Fort, 73, suffered critical injuries, prompting paramedics to rush him to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Rodriguez, 65, of Santa Maria, suffered no injuries in the accident, which CHP officers are further investigating.
