SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (May 23, 2023) – Late Friday night, Melina Griset Alvarez died in a horrific pedestrian crash on Gerber Road.

The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Gerber Road and Waterman Road.

According to reports, a 29-year-old Sacramento man drove east in a white 2019 Prius. As he drove through the Waterman Road with a green light, Alvarez stepped directly in front of the Prius.

As a result, the car’s front end hit the pedestrian, throwing her around 200 feet in an easterly direction. Then, the victim’s body came to rest in an embankment 3 feet off the road.

After the crash, the driver stayed at the scene until the CHP officers came and talked to him.

Meanwhile, a Tesla driver also driving east on Gerber managed to take a video of the incident. The video revealed that the pedestrian ran across the westbound lanes over the median. Then, she went to the eastbound lane where the Prius hit her.

Moreover, the authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
