Megann Pitts, Patricia White and Girl Hospitalized Following Multi-Car Collision on Highway 99 Near South Avenue
CHICO, CA (December 14, 2018) – Three people, including a child, were injured following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Highway 99 just south of South Avenue.
Megann Pitts, 33, of Chico, suffered minor injuries following the wreck while her 6-year-old daughter suffered a broken leg, a cut to her head and a broken pelvis. Both were transferred to Enloe Medical Center for immediate treatment, yet the child was airlifted to UC Davis for treatment for further assistance.
A 54-year-old driver from Corning – Patricia Dee White – suffered minor injuries, a big rig driver also sustained minor injuries and three other drivers involved escaped the crash unscathed.
According to reports, officers believe that one of the drivers made an unsafe lane change around 8 a.m. and clipped a Nissan Altima traveling in the opposite direction. The impact sent the Nissan Altima into the path of the big rig before it traveled into the path of another car.
The crash shut down the highway for nearly two hours as crews investigated and cleaned up the scene. The ultimate cause of the collision is under investigation.
