Covelo Vehicle Crash Killed Maryanne Whipple and Anthony Hopper
Covelo, CA (October 30, 2020) – On Sunday, 43-year-old Maryanne Whipple of Covelo, and 37-year-old Anthony Hopper of Ukiah, died in a vehicle crash on Howard Road.
The fatal incident took place at about 11:45 p.m. when Whipple was driving a 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck north of Highway 162 at a high speed.
The California Highway Patrol said for unknown reasons, the pickup truck drove off the east edge of Howard Road.
It drove through a wooden fence and struck a tree.
The authorities pronounced Whipple and Hopper, who was in the front seat, dead on the scene.
Meanwhile, a woman in the rear sustained major injuries. The rescuers flew her to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Moreover, the CHP withheld the injured woman’s identity. Also, authorities are investigating whether the driver was impaired at the time of the incident.
Furthermore, personnel from Cal Fire, REACH ambulance, Laytonville Ambulance, the Long Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.
