Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (February 2, 2020) – A man died in a pedestrian crash Sunday evening in Long Beach, according to police.
 
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway at Caspian Avenue.
 
Police said a 1998 Toyota Camry, driven by a 56-year-old Wilmington man, was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway when it struck the pedestrian who was walking northbound in an unmarked crosswalk.
 
As result, the pedestrian sustained injuries to his upper torso. Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where he later died. He has not yet been identified.
 
The Toyota driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
 
Police said that cell phone distraction or DUI were not considered factors in the crash. They searched for a possible second vehicle, a red Chevrolet Tahoe, which may have also struck the pedestrian and fled.
