Kylle Thomasson Detained Following Deadly DUI Wreck on 5 Freeway Near West Mathews Road
STOCKTON, CA (December 28, 2018) – A tow truck operator lost his life Christmas morning after being struck by an alleged impaired driver on the 5 Freeway just north of West Mathews Road.
California Highway Patrol reported that around 2 a.m., the unidentified tow truck operator was loading a vehicle on the truck on the right shoulder of the northbound 5 Freeway. Meanwhile, 25-year-old Kylle Thomasson lost control of his 2001 GMC and traveled toward the shoulder of the roadway, where it struck the operator and tow truck before overturning back onto the roadway and striking two other vehicles.
The tow truck operator died at the scene. After Thomasson was medically cleared, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony manslaughter. He was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail with a $1.1 million bail. It was not stated whether anyone else was harmed.
