Woman Dead and 2 Others Injured After 3-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 270 in St. Louis

St. Louis, Mo (December 19, 2024) –  a 42-year-old woman from O’Fallon died and two others sustained serious injuries in  a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 270.

A Thursday evening crash on northbound Interstate 270 near Page Avenue claimed the life of a woman and left two others seriously injured, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

The fatal crash blocked all lanes of I-270 at Page Avenue, which transitions into Missouri 364 west of I-270, as MSHP officers worked at the scene.

The incident began when a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox stopped due to a mechanical issue while traveling north on I-270. A 2022 Ford Escape stopped behind the disabled Equinox, the report stated. 

The driver of a 2014 GMC Terrain failed to notice the stopped vehicles and rear-ended the Escape, which then collided with the Equinox. 

The impact scattered the vehicles across three lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Escape, a 42-year-old woman from O’Fallon, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene.

 A 4-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Escape and the 24-year-old driver of the GMC Terrain sustained serious injuries and were transported to a hospital.

By 7:30 p.m., traffic slowly moved along the right shoulder, and authorities diverted vehicles at Olive Boulevard, according to an MSHP spokesperson. 

The scene was cleared, and all lanes reopened by around 10 p.m., as confirmed by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

An MSHP crash reconstruction team is conducting an investigation into the incident.
