Evening 2-Car Crash on 5 Freeway in Bellingham Kills Two Young Men and Injures Child
BELLINGHAM, WA (December 13, 2019 – Two young men died and a child was injured following a two-car crash Friday evening in Bellingham.
The crash happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. on northbound 5 Freeway, just south of Sunset Drive.
A gray 2009 BMW X6 was heading northbound in the second lane of the freeway. A black 2015 Audi S4 approached from the behind at a high rate of speed and slammed into the back of the BMW.
The Audi veered off the roadway and caught fire.
As a result, the driver of the Audi, identified as 19-year-old Karnveer S. Hundal of Bellingham, and his passenger, 18-year-old Manbir Singh of Bellingham, died at the scene.
A 7-year-old child from Vancouver, B.C. who was a passenger in the BMW was injured. The BMW driver, Julia C. Yu, and another passenger, Eric H. Chan, both 41 and from Vancouver, B.C., were unharmed.
Yu, Chan and the unnamed child were all wearing their seat belts.
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
