Jason Cunningham Killed, Sherri Bell Hospitalized in 3-Car Crash on Highway 2 Near Milepost 329
NEWPORT, WA (February 5, 2019) – A 38-year-old man perished in a three-car crash Friday night on Highway 2 near Milepost 329.
The Spokane Valley man was identified as 38-year-old Jason R. Cunningham. Washington State Patrol stated that Cunningham was driving a 2004 Subaru Impreza when he attempted to pass up a slower vehicle by using the oncoming traffic lane. In his attempt, his car collided with a 2007 Saturn Outlook, driven by 44-year-old Sherri Bell, of Newport.
Cunningham’s vehicle was pushed into the truck he was trying to pass due to the impact. Bell was brought to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for treatment while the truck driver escaped the collision unharmed.
Cunningham died at the scene and was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Washington State Patrol has not yet determined whether impairment played a role.
