Irfan Sarwar Arrested, Vehicle Crashes With Big Rig on Interstate 5

 
Yreka, CA (January 08, 2021) – On Thursday, police arrested Irfan Sarwar in a fatal DUI crash on Interstate 5 south of Montague Road.
 
The fatal crash happened at about 1:30 a.m. when Sarwar was driving between 70 and 75 mph with a male passenger.
 
He veered off the west edge of the roadway, and he continued westbound across a nearby on-ramp.
 
The passenger’s side of Sarwar’s Prius crashed into the side of a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder.
 
Sarwar was driving between 70 and 75 mph, the CHP said. The driver then veered off the west edge of the roadway, and the vehicle continued westbound across a nearby on-ramp, the CHP said. The passenger’s side of the Prius collided into the side of a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder, according to officials.
 
As a result, Sarwar and his passenger sustained major injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts provided by first-responders, Sarwar’s passenger died of his injuries at the scene.
 
Furthermore, the big rig driver was asleep inside the tractor-trailer at the time of the crash. He did not incur any injuries from the crash.
 
On the other hand, responders took Sarwar to a hospital for medical treatment.
 
Then, they arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol and subsequently released him to Fairchild Medical Center.
 
Furthermore, the CHP said temperatures were in the freezing range and the roadway may have been slick.
