Frederick Gleason Dead, Aurelio Barajas-Zapien Involved in Big Rig Crash on Highway 165 at Crane Avenue
MERCED COUNTY, CA (March 5, 2019) – A Saturday evening collision involving a big rig and a sedan at Highway 165 and Crane Avenue resulted in the death an 82-year-old Stevinson man.
The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. when a 2008 Lexus sedan, driven by Frederick Gleason, struck the front-left wheels of a big rig hauling milk.
According to reports, the big rig, driven by 43-year-old Aurelio Barajas-Zapien, tried making a northbound turn onto Highway 165 following a stop at the intersection; however, Gleason was unable to avoid the imminent crash even after taking evasive action, according to authorities.
Gleason died at the scene and California Highway Patrol reported no other injuries.
Authorities confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the collision.
