Fernando Palafox Arrested for DUI in 15 Freeway Collision Near Rasor Road
BARSTOW, CA (February 6, 2019) – A single-vehicle DUI crash on the 15 Freeway near Rasor Road Thursday left a passenger dead and the driver under arrest.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Fernando Palafox was driving a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta with a 21-year-old male in the passenger seat.
Palafox, 18, allowed the vehicle to leave the roadway and drive onto the dirt center median where it plowed into two yellow paddle markers; however, Palafox tried steering the vehicle to the right, yet lost control and veered across all lanes of traffic before it traveled down a dirt embankment where it overturned.
The unidentified male passenger was partially ejected. When crews arrived, they found the vehicle on its roof and pronounced the passenger deceased on arrival.
A preliminary investigation determined that Palafox was under the influence of alcohol and was also unlicensed. He was booked into the High Desert Detention Center on charges of felony DUI and manslaughter.
