Felipe Tello and Several Injured in DUI Accident on Highway 86 Near Avenue 52

COACHELLA, CA (July 29, 2019) – Five people suffered injuries in Friday’s two-car DUI accident on Highway 86 near Avenue 52.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the 7:30 p.m. crash left five people, including the DUI driver with injuries.

Per deputies, 38-year-old Felipe Tello, of Indio, collided with a vehicle carrying four people.

Emergency crews say Tello plowed head-on into the southbound vehicle. As a result, three adults and one child required medical attention. However, their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

According to deputies, alcohol does appear to be a factor in the collision. Moreover, Tello will expect DUI causing injury charges.

The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has since reopened.

If you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol, always refrain from getting behind the wheel. Impairment often leads to reckless traffic accidents that could have been avoided. If you are under the influence, rely on a taxi driver or a sober friend to bring you home.
