Ernest Gilbert Seriously Injured in Deadly Highway 154 Crash [Santa Barbara, CA]

Santa Barbara Man Ernest Gilbert Hospitalized Fatal Highway 154 Head-On Accident

 
Santa Barbara, CA (March 25, 2021) – On Thursday, 34-year-old Ernest Gilbert of Santa Barbara was injured in a fatal head-on crash on Highway 154.
 
The Santa Barbara accident before 4 a.m. east of Cachuma Lake Village.
 
A 39-year-old Ventura man drove a 2001 Toyota. He was traveling westbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, he made an unsafe turn and crossed the double yellow lines.
 
He then drifted into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on with a 2017 Dodge driven by Gilbert.
 
When emergency responders arrived, they located the Toyota driver dead in his vehicle.
 
On the other hand, responders found Gilbert trapped in his Dodge with a traumatic injury to a lower extremity.
 
Officers performed a major extrication and took Gilbert to the Santa Barbara Hospital via ground ambulance.
 
Moreover, officers said both men were wearing safety equipment during the accident, although it’s not known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
 
Meanwhile, authorities closed Highway 154 from Highway 192 near Santa Barbara and Highway 246 in Santa Ynez for several hours due to the incident. They reopened it to traffic shortly before 6:30 A.M.
