Eduardo Gonzales Sr. Dead, Stephanie Gonzales Faces Arrest in Pedestrian Crash at East Pine and South Kelly Streets
LODI, CA (November 4, 2019) — A woman faces charges after allegedly hitting and killing a man with a vehicle on Wednesday at East Pine and South Kelly streets.
According to reports, the incident stemmed from an alternation witnessed by several people. The 3:30 p.m. argument involved 59-year-old Eduardo Gonzales Sr. and 40-year-old Stephanie Gonzales. Reportedly, both had carried a tumultuous relationship and were either believed to be married or recently separated.
Witnesses accounted for seeing the couple argue in the commercial-residential area just east of Highway 99. Sometime during the struggle, Eduardo ended up on the ground. Subsequently, Stephanie followed him, entered a vehicle and ran over the 59-year-old man before fleeing.
Witnesses rushed to Eduardo’s aid. However, police pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after.
Fifteen minutes later, California Highway Patrol officers responded to a call that involved the car that struck Eduardo. Authorities determined that Stephanie crashed into a Ford F-250 pickup truck at Bruella and Acampo roads. Due to the accident, Stephanie suffered severe injuries and the Ford driver suffered minor injuries.
Stephanie, who family members said suffers from mental health issues and drug addiction, violated a restraining order that Eduardo filed from a prior domestic battery incident. It appears she holds a record with arson charges back in 2016 and possession of controlled substance and trespassing without consent back in 2002.
Authorities stated that once Stephanie is medically cleared, she will most likely face charges on suspicion of homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.
We would like to send our condolences to the loved ones of Eduardo Gonzales Sr.
