Barry Belcher Arrested after DUI Crash on Murray Street Bridge in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz, CA (November 27, 2023) – On Friday evening, a woman was hospitalized after the DUI crash on Murray Street Bridge.

Reportedly, Barry Belcher, 61, allegedly drove under the influence of drugs, causing him to lose consciousness. His vehicle then swerved onto the sidewalk of the bridge. 

As a result, a woman was struck by the car, and a man, in an attempt to avoid being hit, went over the bridge and into the water, as reported by the police.

Emergency officials rescued the man who ended up in the water, and he was subsequently transported to a trauma center. 

The woman struck by the car was taken to a hospital for medical attention. 

Following the incident, Belcher was arrested on charges of felony driving under the influence and drug possession.
