1 Dead in Temple Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 36 and Highway 317

TEMPLE, TX (April 28, 2024) – Saturday morning, a devastating 18-wheeler vehicle crash on Highway 136 and Highway 317 killed 1 person.

The authorities responded to the scene at about 11:20 a.m. on Highway 36, west of Highway 317.

Upon crews’ arrival, they located a 350,000-pound oversized load that had come off its trailer and was trapping a vehicle underneath.

The trapped vehicle had three occupants. 

Temple Fire and Rescue confirmed that two individuals tragically lost their lives in the incident, while a third person had to be extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to the emergency room with life-threatening injuries.

The rescue operation was complex and time-consuming, taking over four hours to safely extract the driver from the vehicle, according to Temple Fire and Rescue.

Temple police responded to the scene at approximately 12:20 p.m. Although authorities have not disclosed the cause of the crash, they did confirm that multiple vehicles were involved.

As recovery efforts continue, the road remains closed to traffic. Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Temple police at 254-298-5500.
