1 Dead, 2 Hurt in Imperial County Accident on Highway 98 near Holdridge Road
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (May 4, 2021) – On Monday, Detron Williams and Mistie Upchurch suffered injuries in a deadly crash on Highway 98.
According to California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Highway 98 near Holdridge Road.
Reports revealed that 41-year old Detron Williams of Campo drove an eastbound 2005 Lincoln. Then, he veered towards the westbound lane of Highway 98, and crashed head-on with a westbound 2002 Pontiac.
Furthermore, officials said that both drivers attempted evasive actions, but still collided with each other.
Also, paramedics confirmed that Detron Williams sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Meanwhile, a REACK Air Ambulance airlifted 23-year-old Lincoln passenger, Mistie Upchurch of Campo, to Desert Regional Medical Center.
Meanwhile, officials said that the 83-year old Calexico man driving the Pontiac died at the scene.
The authorities withhold the identity of the deceased pending notification to the next of kin.
