9-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized After Crash on Rios Canyon Road in El Cajon 

El Cajon, CA (April 19, 2024) – On Sunday evening, a 9-year-old boy sustained injuries in a crash on Rios Canyon Road.

On Sunday, around 6 p.m., a 76-year-old man from El Cajon drove his 1991 GMC Sierra northbound on Rios Canyon Road toward Kelli Lane, according to authorities. 

At the same time, the nine-year-old boy attempted to walk west across Rios Canyon Road from the east. 

Officers stated that the driver could not avoid the pedestrian, and his truck collided with him. 

The boy was then taken to Rady Children’s Hospital with major injuries, while the driver remained at the scene, CHP reported. 

They also confirmed that alcohol and/or drugs were not factors in the crash.
