Carol Sanchez Attempts to Flee, Gets Hit by Car on Highway 99 Near Franklin Road
MERCED, CA (March 22, 2019) – A 26-year-old woman attempting to evade an officer died Wednesday night when a vehicle struck her along Highway 99 near Franklin Road.
An officer pulled over Carol Sanchez around 8:30 p.m. According to reports, Sanchez appeared to be driving erratically.
Once the officer pulled her over, he immediately sensed an alcohol odor coming from the vehicle. Subsequently, he returned to his patrol car but as he did this, Sanchez bolted across the road through the southbound lanes of traffic.
As the woman attempted to run across the lanes, a southbound vehicle struck her, causing her fatal injuries.
At this time, authorities are investigating why she tried running.
