Andres Candelas of San Luis Obispo Dies in Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 [San Luis Obispo, CA]

San Luis Obispo, CA (September 21, 2021) – On Tuesday, 19-year-old San Luis Obispo man, Andres Candelas, dies in a vehicle crash on Highway 101.

The fatal accident took place at about 12:45 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the freeway, at Avila Beach Drive.

Officers said a 21-year-old male driver from San Luis Obispo was driving a Dodge Charger. Officers said he allowed his vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a freeway sign. 

Subsequently, the car continued off the dirt shoulder and overturned onto Avila Beach Drive.

Candelas was partially thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the rescuers extricated the driver from the vehicle and took him to the hospital with major injuries.

The authorities do not consider drugs or alcohol to be factors in this crash.
