Ford Driver Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 80

 
Pinole, CA (January 08, 2021) – On Friday, a 46-year-old Vallejo man died, while a 78-year-old Concord woman was injured in a head-on collision on Interstate 80 near the Carquinez Bridge.
 
The fatal incident took place at about 12:30 a.m west of the Pinole Valley Road exit.
 
The CHP suspects the Concord woman who was reported missing, drove a silver Toyota Camry west in the eastbound lanes and smashed into a silver Ford Focus.
 
As a result, Ford’s male driver was trapped in his seat and firefighters freed him using hydraulic tools.
 
Immediately, rescuers took him to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he later died.
 
Authorities withheld his identity, pending notification of his next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, an ambulance took the woman who is suspected of driving the Camry to the same hospital.
 
Authorities said her injuries were deemed moderate.
 
Furthermore, a 39-year-old Vallejo woman who was a Ford passenger survived with minor injuries.
 
The authorities did not arrest make an arrest as it was not clear whether the driver of the Camry was impaired.
