SUV Rear-Ends Big Rig on 91 Freeway in Corona Killing One Passenger
CORONA, CA (May 2, 2019) – A teenage boy was killed in a rear-end car crash late Thursday evening in Corona.
Officials said the 17-year-old died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. He was identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office as Corona resident Juan Anaya.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at around 10:25 p.m. when the 18-year-old man was driving a 2009 Dodge Journey east with a 17-year-old passenger on the 91 Freeway, just west of Green River Road, when he crashed into the back wheel of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway.
The driver of a semi that had broken down and was on the right shoulder with its emergency lights on and warning triangles out reported an SUV had struck his big rig about 10:30 p.m. according to Sgt. Erick Helvie of the California Highway Patrol’s Riverside office.
The 18-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with chest, knee and eye injuries, according to the CHP.
