Early Morning DUI Accident on 51 Freeway in Sacramento Ends in Fatality
SACRAMENTO, CA (June 17, 2019) – One person died and another person sustained injuries following a DUI accident on 51 Freeway early Monday morning in Sacramento.
The accident happened just after 2:00 a.m. on northbound 51 Freeway at E Street. According to the CHP, a vehicle was traveling too fast on the freeway near E Street when it struck the center divider and flipped over. The driver then got out of their vehicle.
A good Samaritan saw the incident and also exited their vehicle, and went over to the first driver. At that point, a third vehicle hit both motorists.
The first driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second driver sustained injuries, however it is unclear how the driver was injured.
One person has been arrested for DUI in connection with the crash. However, police did not release the name of the arrested DUI driver.
A short time later, a postal service truck crashed into a guardrail. The truck driver was not injured.
No identification is being released at this time. Further investigation is underway.
