Zayliah Medina Hospitalized, Eddie Alvarado Arrested Following Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Collision Near West Park and Las Palmas
FRESNO, CA (December 20, 2018) – A 23-month-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver, later determined as her uncle, in a Fresno neighborhood near West Park and Las Palmas.
Zayliah Medina suffers from multiple injuries including severe head trauma, internal injuries, spinal trauma and broken bones.
According to surveillance footage that was captured by neighbors across the street, the child went around the SUV and stopped right in front of it before being run over by 33-year-old Eddie Alvarado, her uncle.
Alvarado drove away, and Medina’s mother rushed her daughter to a hospital.
According to Fresno police chief Jerry Dyer, the mother stated she did not want to get her step-brother to get in trouble, knowing it was an accident. Alvarado returned shortly after but left again before police knew where to look for evidence.
Alvarado was later arrested and jailed Wednesday on hit-and-run charges after he had been reportedly beaten by possible family members over this incident.
