Distracted Driver Rosario Valdezinda Strikes and Kills Pedestrian Yong Do Kim in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 25, 2019) – A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a distracted motorist on West 6th Street near South Grand View Street.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. when Yong Do Kim was attempting to cross West 6th Street near MacArthur Park inside a marked crosswalk. Kim was captured on surveillance camera nearly reaching the sidewalk when he was struck by 38-year-old Rosario Valdezinda.
Kim, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A news report claimed that Valdezinda tried leaving the scene after the accident, but witnesses stopped her; however, a police report stated that she remained at the scene and rendered aid to Kim.
A follow-up investigation of what exactly happened is underway.
Per a police statement, Valdezinda was looking at her messages on the WhatsApp on her cell phone when the collision happened. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and posted $50,000 bail Thursday afternoon.
