Road Closure Due to Wrong-Way 57 Freeway Crash in Brea
BREA, CA (January 2, 2020)—A wrong-way driver collided with a big rig causing a six-lane closure on the 57 Freeway near the Imperial Highway exit Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash unfolded around 2:40 a.m. and involved another semi-truck. Officers learned that one of the big rig drivers collided with a white sedan traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. As a result, a fire engulfed shortly after the impact.
Witnesses informed CHP that they saw a man exit out of the burning vehicle. There were no other accounts available in the report.
Due to the nature of the crash, crews closed off six lanes and the carpool lane of the northbound 57 Freeway at 3:10 a.m.
Two occupants of the FedEx truck that collided with the vehicle escaped harm. It’s unclear how the second semi-truck became involved in the accident and whether the wrong-way driver had been impaired, arrested or injured.
