Fatal Rollover Crash on 5 Freeway in Buttonwillow
BUTTONWILLOW, CA (August 8, 2019) – A woman was killed following a rollover crash on 5 Freeway early Thursday morning, in Buttonwillow.
The crash took place at 4:12 a.m. on southbound 5 Freeway, just west of Highway 58. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle carrying three people had drifted toward the center divider for unknown reasons. The driver reportedly over corrected, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway and into nearby orchards.
As a result, a female occupant was pinned inside the vehicle and suffered major injuries. Arriving paramedics later pronounced her dead at the scene.
Furthermore, the other two occupants were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage and conduct preliminary duties. However, the roadway has since reopened to traffic.
